Research Professional – Advanced Computing / Computer Engineering or Software Engineering
IID (Institute Intelligence and Data) of Université Laval is looking for a research professional – Advanced Computing / Computer Engineering or Software Engineering for a Specialist in Advanced Computing position, under the supervision of Professor Christian Gagné, in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Université Laval.
Description of the Position
The candidate will be asked to:
- Work closely with researchers in order to better understand their needs in terms of advanced computing and research software.
- Consider the development of cutting-edge technological solutions and tools to support AI research at Université Laval, as well as in businesses.
- Advise researchers and companies on the efficient use of the digital research infrastructures of Université Laval (VALERIA) and Compute Canada.
- Participate in the design, development and maintenance of scientific software
- Write technical documents and participate in training activities for researchers
The candidate will be called upon to participate in various activities with the IID team of research professionals: discussing problems encountered, developing solutions, sharing expertise and transferring knowledge.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The Category I research professional participates in the identification of the objectives of the research project and the analysis of the results. He or she carries out the studies and research resulting from these objectives and the subsequent research results.
- He or she performs the main tasks of a research project and can assist the principal researcher in other research activities. (II.a)
- He or she works under minimal supervision for many tasks and is responsible for the quality and relevance of the results received from the people he or she supervises. (II.b)
- He or she plans the implementation and administration of data acquisition tools or systems. (II.d)
- He or she may be called upon to improve or adapt already existing methods. (II.d)
- He or she participates in the training and supervision of students and research professionals involved in the research project. (II.e)
- He or she analyzes and interprets research results according to intended or customary methods and disseminates the results. He or she may be called upon to write reports. (II.f)
- He or she can perform various administrative tasks related to the project. (II.g)
- He or she can supervise the work of other people, such as category I research professionals (II.i)
- The Category II research professional performs a variety of research tasks that generally require specialized knowledge. (I.a)

Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Experience in analyzing and solving complex programming problems
- Demonstrated knowledge of one or more of these languages: Python, C / C ++, Go, R
- Experience with Unix operating systems, tools and utility software
- Knowledge of exemplary techniques in software development (automated testing, automation of production and continuous deployment, use of containers)
- Proficiency in French and English, both oral and written
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively present complex or technical information to a variety of audiences
- Desire to acquire knowledge in new areas
