Lyse Langlois co-editor of a special issue of the magazine "IEEE Technology and Society" on AI and sustainable development

Lyse Langlois, Director General of the International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of AI and Digital Technology (OBVIA) and IID researcher member is co-editor, together with Amy Luers (Futur Earth, Sustainability in the Digital Age), Sana Kharaghani ( UK Office for AI), Sasha Luccioni (Mila) and Mathilde Mougeot (ENSIIE, CNRS) of a special issue of the IEEE Technology and Society magazine on AI and sustainable development.

The articles included in this special issue highlight the ways in which disruptions, whether natural or human, impact our societies, their technological development, and their future.

Through these views, the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of artificial intelligence and other related technologies are examined. How can these new tools support the changes needed to overcome the climate crisis and the sustainable development challenges associated with it? The research work featured in this issue addresses this question, and many others.

Although the body of the articles presented in this special issue was written before the COVID-19 pandemic, the current crisis highlights, all the more poignantly, the challenges that societies face in building the world and its future.
