A look at artificial intelligence in the May-June 2020 edition of the OIQ (Ordre des Ingénieurs) "Plan" magazine

The May-June 2020 edition of the “Plan” magazine of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec offers a section on artificial intelligence, in which Christian Gagné, Director of IID (Institute Intelligence and Data), intervenes.

The opinion of Christian Gagné, professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Université Laval, also holder of a Canada-CIFAR chair in artificial intelligence, was sought within a large section on Quebecois engineering and AI.

Professor Gagné emphasizes the importance which should be given to aspects related to ethics and social responsibility in the context of technologies linked to artificial intelligence.

For example, he explains what he believes is the main issue in the short term: that of the confidentiality of big data. “With 200 ‘Likes’, Facebook knows more about us than our own parents,” he says. We must establish a legal framework where companies cannot resell this type of personal data to just anyone.
