A two-year $ 500,000 grant to support IID in hiring advanced artificial intelligence personnel in the Quebec City region

Prompt is proud to announce today that a two-year grant of $ 500,000 has been awarded to IID (Institute Intelligence and Data) of Université Laval as part of the AI CAPACITY call for projects. The funding obtained will enable the Institute to hire five new research professionals specializing in AI to support R&D in a number of key sectors.

“Through our AI CAPACITY program, we seek to support the development of the capacity of universities to provide structured access to support services for R&D and technological development in fields related to artificial intelligence. We are happy that IID responded to the call and took this opportunity to support AI research and innovation in the greater Quebec City area!”, Luc Sirois, Chairman and CEO of Prompt, declared.

“The IID (Institute Intelligence and Data) team continues to grow, by equipping itself with cutting-edge expertise as well as strategic expertise which, we are sure, will enable us to improve the support we provide for the development of innovative projects within Quebec City’s AI ecosystem, in academia and industry. The new research professionals will contribute to the expertise already in place, and thus increase the capacity of Université Laval in the AI field,” Christian Gagné, director of IID, added.

This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with various key partners in the region, both in academia and in business: Thales, La Capitale Insurance and Financial Services, the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale Medical Services, the Information Technology Department at Université Laval, the FORAC Research Consortium and the 4.0 Industrial Systems Engineering Research Consortium.

IID Positions related to multiple areas of AI application

Research professionals hired by IID and its partners will develop solutions and approaches related to artificial intelligence in a plurality of sectors – health, industry, insurance, IT or in connection with a variety of approaches – machine learning, advanced computing, computer vision and data valorization.

The five experts, who will begin their mandate at the end of October 2020, will work in projects led by the IID and its researchers, as well as in collaboration with the Institute’s academic or industrial partners.

“IID (Institute Intelligence and Data), in collaboration with Prompt, will thus acquire five high-level positions in artificial intelligence, which will enable IID to build bridges with regional players interested in AI, while continuing to support the AI industrial and academic ecosystem,” Lynda Robitaille, administrative director of IID, observed.
