IID, Institute Intelligence and Data, at Université Laval is launching four new scholarships today which, in addition to the programs already offered, seek to support and stimulate graduate studies or undergraduate study internships in fields involving artificial intelligence (AI) and data science.

“We are always keen to see more graduate studies or undergraduate internship projects emerge in the fields of AI and data science, and so the IID team is proud to launch these four new scholarships today which we hope will have a strong leverage effect.” declares the director of the Institute, Christian Gagné.

A scholarship to stimulate undergraduate internship projects

The first of these four scholarships, the IID Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Artificial Intelligence – Summer 2021 Internships aims to support students seeking to gain academic research experience in AI or data science at Université Laval, with financial support of $4500, together with financial support of $3000 offered by the internship supervisor.

Three scholarships for graduate studies (Master's and Ph.D. programs)

The three other scholarships are offered for those pursuing graduate students. Thus, the IID Support Scholarship for Graduate Studies in Artificial Intelligence offers $7000 in support to students from outside of the Quebec Province, who wish to initiate or pursue graduate studies in AI or data science at Université Laval.

The IID Solidarity Scholarship for Graduate Studies in Artificial Intelligence seeks to offer a financial supplement – of $7000 – for students facing a particular situation for which this support would have a significant effect in facilitating the pursuit of graduate studies.

Finally, aimed at foreign students, the IID Artificial Intelligence Supplementary Tuition Exemption Scholarship offers, as its name suggests, an exemption from additional tuition fees up to an amount of $20 000 for international students who are starting or pursuing a Master’s degree in AI or data science.

“Each program is designed to be complementary to already existing funding – particularly from the CRNSG, or in the various faculties. Students interested in studying in the fields of artificial intelligence or data science have access to improved funding opportunities that they can obtain during their graduate studies.” observes Lynda Robitaille, IID administrative director.

Interested students have until March 25, 2021 to submit their applications for these scholarships.
